Pepper was an early text editor for Mac OS/X, based on Maarten's pe for BeOS?.

The same author created another editor named Japi, qoute from his website:

"After selling Pepper I found out I had become a real text editor junkie and started yet another, almost from scratch (just using a small bit of Pe code). This editor started life on MacOS? X but then was ported to GTK and eventually to Windows 7. It is fairly bare bones, but I'm using it daily."

Japi is a text editor in the tradition of Classic Mac text editors and offers some IDE features as well.

Main features include:

UTF-8 editor.
powerful search/replace dialog with multi-file search.
syntax highlighting for C++/HTML/XML/Perl?/Python? and TeX
worksheet and script menu.
efficient use of screen real estate (ie no toolbar)

Japi is in active development and comes with a Boost license.
