Star Office was a cross-platform productivity suite competing with Microsoft Office on Windows, and available fopr Mac OS/X and Linux as well. It was based on Sun's acquisition of original authors Starmaker GMBH.
Sun decided to make the suite open source as Open Office. After Sun's acquisition by Oracle, it was briefly Oracle Open office before Oracle turned it into an entirely community product under the Apache fraqmework
