Line editor personality of the UNIX vi editor

Author: Bill Joy
Homepage: http://ex-vi.sourceforge.net/

Family: ViFamily
Platform: UNIX
License: BSD

See also VI

This editor is part of the LineEditorFamily and the ViFamily.

It is the command language for the VI editor. It is also usable as a stand-alone editor.

Not quite. Ex is a line editor like ed. Vi is a full screen editor.

Under Unix, ex and vi are hard links to the same executable. Which personality it assumes depends upon the name it was invoked by, and one can switch back and forth between ex and vi modes during a session. --DMcCunney
