A Windows console clone of the MS-DOS Brief editor. From the website:
"Brief was written from the ground up in 2006 as a Windows application. You will find a remarkable resemblance to the original brief, though macro language, tab expansion, and regular expressions are not currently implemented. Below are some modernizations you may like about the new brief:
- CPU efficient; system will run cool, quiet and saves batteries
- runs on 64-bit versions of Windows which no longer have Dos compatibility
- no changes are made to autoexec.bat. You can start brief on any machine with zero configuration with just a single, small executable file.
- long filename support
- gracefully closes when the system is shut down or the window closed
- accepts popular keystrokes found in programs like edit, notepad and word
- compiling is even smoother than before
- virtually unlimited undo depth
- edit binary files, files formatted for unix or mac, and there are no line length limits
- copy and paste through the Windows clipboard
- choose the screen size, font, and colors on the fly
- articulated program icons and window title
- mouse wheel support"
