Long time sys admin/programmer who remembers the excitement of replacing a word processor with a text editor.

I have written programs and scripts for many years on Linux, Windows, and DOS machines in more languages than I can count on all my fingers and toes.

I have used various editors over the years:

    * TDE (mostly) and NotGnu (sometimes) Emacs on DOS, Windows, and WinPE? (currently)
    * vi on Linux (currently)
    * Brief (gave it up for TDE)
    * TED
    * Short (a DOS editor I cannot find even on this site)
    * Norton Editor
    * Eclipse

I favor simpler tools that can be combined, rather than larger tools with an overwhelming number of functions. Imagine a java class that implemented every interface and included every other class. You would need only this one class, but it would be so large and cumbersome that you would never use it.
