One feature which has been found in a lot of newer text editors (such as [[Eclipse]], PowerEdit, and EditPlus) is the ability to store and catalog text clippings for later pasting into programs. Common idioms can thus be reused from program to program. For example: * list of USA's 50 states, comma delimited * list of US state capitols * code needed to read a file in Java * etc. [[ISPF/PDF]] provides templates for code snippets that can be dropped into the file being edited. ----- Commentary To some degree, this is encouraging what is otherwise a bad practice. Copy-paste bugs are so common that they have their own name and yet, this is a powerful strategy for people who need a fast starting point. :If the clippings are user-generated, I agree; if they are more like templates they can be beneficial. --JLTurriff Any editor with macro capability can be made to do this.
