CMS/TSO Pipelines is a sort of UNIX pipes on steroids, which is available as an optional package on IBM's z/OS and z/VM CMS operating systems. It processes input from one or more sources at a time, and is capable of splitting and merging record streams to provide powerful file manipulation capabilities. (Some applications that have been written in CMS/TSO Pipelines are a generalized server pipeline[1] which can be customized for any purpose, a web server[2], a pipeline animator which allows the developer to watch records as they pass through the pipeline[3], and more.

A platform-independent implementation is available as an embedded component of NetRexx, which runs on all Java-capable platforms.
