Nobuhide Tsuda (つだのぶひで、N.Tsuda) is the author of ViVi text editor, who was also a vi user, started development in 1996, and with the cooperation of trial users, it was officially released as 2001.6.1 version 1.0. The author did not decide on the specification of ViVi, but adopted the development model to improve function and quality by trial by the user and frequent release based on the feedback, but he could switch to the development model that all decisions related to the development of specifications, schedules, etc. were made by the author. Enhancements are ongoing based on this development model, and as of 2013, the latest version 4.01 has been released.

The author says that ViVi is not a vi clone, but an editor that supports vi functions, and that only one of the functions to meet the purpose of improving intellectual productivity is the support of vi command. In fact, there are some commands (u, U, Ctrl-V, etc.) that change the function assignment, and some commands that are not supported (shiftwidth, etc.).

As ViVi's track record, the author claims that in 2001, among the top 50 stock market capitalization companies in Japan, 18 were purchasing corporate licenses.
