IBM's E text editor, third release
Author: Clark Maurer Homepage: http://www.ibm.com Family: IbmEditorFamily Platform: MS-DOS License: Commercial (released as part of IBM PC-DOS
The third major version of IBM's widely used E editor family. Although initially distributed on an IBM Internal Use only basis, the editor was widely distributed outside IBM and was, for several years, one of the most widely used software packages in IBM.E3 was the basis for a number of IBM products. Indeed, a version of E3 shipped as the IBM DOS 6.1 system editor and was retained in subsequent releases.
The SlickEdit editor is similar to E3, almost certainly because it was written by the original designer and programmer of the E family of Editors, ClarkMaurer. IBM's Professional Edit PE and the PE32 editor look similar and share a number of common user interface elements with E3, but are far less capable. Among actively distributed editors, the X2 Editor actually looks the most like it, as does CSE (colorado state editor).
In fact, CSE looks so much like it I have to wonder about its origins...
