Here's the tree in outline form:
- EarlyEditorFamily - The first text editors implemented on computers
- Mainframe - Editors on mainframe computers from IBM and Unisys
- PC Editors - Editors on IBM PCs and compatibles
- Non-PC editors - Editors running on other micros that aren't IBM PC compatible
- Handheld Editors - Editors running on palmtop devices
- Data Based Editors - Editors for specific kinds of text
- Language Based Editors - Editors written in cross-platform script languages
- Edit Control based editors - Editors based on an editing component
- Unix Editors - Editors that originated on the UNIX operating system
- DecFamily - Editors on minicomputers made by Digital Equipment Corp. and editors emulating them
- MulticsEditorFamily - Editors on the Multics operating syste.
- OberonEditorFamily
- AEDITFamily
- SpecializedFamily - Editors for various specialized purposes
CuaFamily appears several times because it is a major feature of certain text editors. Also, families such as ViFamily and EmacsFamily appear under unix because that is the originating family. Clearly, there are versions for nearly every platform out there...
