Things that I believe in:
- TabsVsSpaces: I believe that tabs should be used over spaces when you write code.
- Tabs should be 4 spaces long (especially, by default).
- Sometimes spaces should be preferred over tabs (mostly in plain text files).
- Vim vs EMACS HolyWars is nonsense: they both have good features, but ultimately they suck.
- I have thoughts on TheIdealEditor and think about designing one (not developing, yet?).
Text editors that I used the most:
- Notepad
- Sublime Text
- GNU Emacs
- gedit
Text editors that I ever used:
- Vi / Vim -- didn't like
- Visual Studio Code -- didn't like
- nano -- I like this one, prefer over Vi/Vim? when I use terminal on Linux
- NotepadPlusPlus -- for awhile, until discovered Sublime Text
- SynWrite - used for awhile
- TDE -- really love this one. Discovered here (texteditors.org)
- CotEditor -- used on Mac once, but had in my bookmarks for years
- Should I mention TurboC? I mean, it's specifically for programming and running C code. Anyway
- a lot of others that I checked out for once and can't remember right now
I would like to try out a text editor that's:
- written in Rust
- isn't 800mb in size (like emacs). In other words - lightweight. Less than 40mb would be nice
- keybindings that make sense
- user-friendly settings
- powerful, but avoids spammy UI (like Sublime Text)
- community-driven
Right now 4coder seems interesting.
I want to thank RonPerrella for this website and, of course, other fellow contributors, too!
