Rectangular commands means commands that can work on rectangular blocks of text, for example columns.

Editors that support this:

There are several kinds of operations you might do this:

• MoveRectangle?
• CopyRectangle?
• CutRectangle?
• FilterRectangle? (applying a function over every line in a rectangle -- like Unix filters/pipes).
• InsertRectangle?
• InsertAtRectangle
• PasteRectangle?
• MathRectangle (like adding up columns of numbers)
• OverlayRectangle? (like PasteRectangle? but overstriking rather than inserting)
• SortRectangle
